It's On! Are You Watching?

Yesterday kicked off the 2020 Pipe Master’s. Yes in this hardest year of hardest years for all of us surf comps continue. We wondered if we would get a 2020 Pipe this year. We have been starved for any competition surfing at all. If you are a true core lord, you found some solace in the Australian Grand Slam. There you could find the Tweed Pro, Boost Mobile Gold Coast, and Margies. However not all the best surfers in the world could be in Australia for those comps. Now we have the mother of them all, with all the best surfers frothing to complete.

A question to everyone out there though. Do we really care about competition surfing? Are we satisfied to watch incredible edits, or amazing Instagram clips? It is 2020 after all, and our already diminutive attention spans have been slashed even more than usual. How can the WSL recapture everyone’s attention in a year when we all have so much more on our minds? Is it an escape?

The Pipe Master’s is the most historically dramatic competition in surfing. There have been countless moments that are burned in surfer’s minds until our deathbeds.
