Turn a Hobby into a Passion

Step Up Surf provides intermediate to advanced surf coaching at all San Diego beaches. The goal is to advance students through more detailed sessions to improve their experience in the water. We will help improve on form and technique but more importantly share the ocean-awareness required for finding waves. The more you know, the more fun surfing becomes. If surfing is just a hobby but you would like to make it something more we can help you achieve that goal.

Find More Waves

Students will learn proper warm up techniques, and a physical training regimen that will help you stay in the water for longer. Longer surfs lend to more waves. We will also teach you proper lineup etiquette. A crowd of surfers can be intimidating. Especially at some of the more advanced waves like Blacks or Windansea. We will teach students proper etiquette, and how to find waves in even the most crowded breaks.

Mental Approach

Most people don’t stop to consider their time in the water before they paddle out, but every surfer should set an intention before every session. There should be significant time spent observing the surf before entering the water. This will be crucial to finding the speed and shape of the wave, and reading where to sit to catch the most waves. We will teach you methods for preparing and learning from each paddle out. This will increase the speed in which you learn and improve.

Including big wave locations like Salsipuedes MX, Bocas Del Toro Panama, Ocean Beach, San Francisco, and Hawaii. He began teaching surfing at age 18 at Surfari Surf School in Mission Beach, and has been refining the SUS program ever since.

With a unique background playing College Baseball, Wrestling, & boxing he has had the fortunate opportunity of training under some of the best coaches in the world. Bits and pieces of each of those experiences are intertwined into the SUS program. From the beach training carrying heavy bags, to the breathing techniques for surfing bigger waves.

Kevin has lived in every corner of San Diego, and has experienced knowledge of all of the waves in San Diego county. Students can expect to learn great local beach knowledge during coaching sessions, and come away more prepared to catch more waves.
